St Peters in the Rushes was Rempstone’s church up the 1770s. Due to its
remoteness it was decided to build a church 0.75 miles nearer the village. The
present church, All Saints, was built mainly from the materials of the old
church and was opened by the Archbishop of York in 1773. About 20 headstones
mark the site of the original church and during the last 200 years of this
church there were approximately 950 burials including that of six former Rectors
of Rempstone.
The burial records of the church make interesting reading and below are some extracts: -
