Notes

  • From John Birch 4 December 1999 (`Birch Chronicles` e-mail Jobibirch42.fsnet.co.uk)
Re your query with Uriah. I have over the years collected many artifacts (now held by the Birch Foundation in the family Bank) relating to the Birch Family and know where to find many facts that are not available to researchers. Joseph Birch 1754-1818 was my 6 x Grandfather his name appears in the family bible started c1652 along with his childrenvis Thomas Birch b-1783, John Birch b-1784, Samuel Birch b-1786, Elizabeth Birch b-1788, Mary Birch b-1790, Joseph Birch b-1791, William Birch b-1794, URIAH BIRCH b-1798. In Joseph's Will all the children are mentioned, except Uriah who was given a trust upon his 10th Birthday (mentioned in the family bible). Uriah may have been adopted or born out of wedlock to another woman (I cannot prove this at this moment of time) and raised with the rest of the family.  In a newspaper cutting it states that Uriah (the grooms brother) was best man at William Birch`s (1794-1894 son of Joseph Birch and Mary Duggan) wedding.  In 1808 Uriah went to a private school in Nottingham run by a Mr Sharpe his entry induction record shows that he was the son of Joseph Birch press setter of St James Street Leeds and Mary Duggan his wife.  In 1818 records show him living at Lady Brook Lane, Mansfield  Woodhouse where he bought property.
Marriage from IGI.  Deceased at time of 1851 census.
Additional material on the first two generations descended from UriahBirch/Ann Shipman provided by Linda Wightman of Bramcote Moor  Beeston Nottingham Feb 2000.
